“April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go.*”
And go we did. We celebrated the awards and accomplishments of students and faculty, challenged each other physically and mentally, introduced our 31st program, elected new leaders to carry us through the next year, and welcomed a new advisory board.
At the Nationally Competitive Awards Reception held on April 22, 26 of our graduate students were recognized as nominees for nationally competitive awards including a Fulbright Scholarship, a Presidential Management Fellowship, Teach for America, and the South Carolina City/County Management Association Scholarship. Congratulations to all nominees and winners!
Nikki Seibert made the front page of The Charleston City Paper for her apprenticeship with three local farms. Nikki continues to improve the community in which she lives by engaging her neighbors and others to produce and share fresh food. If you ever read her blog, The Road Less Traveled, you may consider jumping over to The Bogarden. The Bogarden is a community garden which “serves as a place to strengthen neighborhood bonds, create friendships, and share the love of gardening.” Thank you for all of your hard work, Nikki!
Adam Johnson, our fellow blogger and graduate student, has worked pretty hard these last few months in helping create The Graduate Student Open Alliance. His hard work paid off this past Saturday as members of the new organization marched in the first Charleston Pride Parade. The group was one of about 40 participating in the “half-day parade and party aimed at connecting the gay and straight communities.” We are very proud of this organization and look forward to future collaborations with the community both on campus and off.
Just one day after we welcomed new students to campus, about 120 received their graduate degree as the world watched via C-SPAN. We are so proud of these graduates and look forward to learning about their future achievements.
Congratulations to everyone on a successful, growing and fun Spring semester! Enjoy your summer and keep us updated with what you’re doing on our Facebook page.
