EPIC is focused on providing undergraduate sophomore students who identify as Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous (Native American, Alaska Native, etc.) the opportunity to be exposed to the world of management consulting.

Through this program, chosen participants will have the opportunity to network with consultants and leaders at Invent, learn tips and tricks for acing case interviews, and strengthen their business skillset. The Darby Children’s Research Institute at MUSC is offering summer scholarship opportunity for those students interested in performing pediatric basic science or clinical science research.

The Opportunity: Fellowship awardees will spend summer 2023 working in state-of-the-art laboratories with faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students spanning multiple disciplines in childhood health and disease.

The Benefits: Scholars will receive lab training and lead their own project, specific to an area of childhood health or disease, and be funded with their own stipend.

The student Fellow will also receive a $4,000 stipend with an additional $1,000 for consumable lab supplies

The John Covington and Robert Lukey Scholarship for the Darby Children’s Research Institute Summer Program

PURPOSE

The purpose of The John Covington and Robert Lukey Scholarship is to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students to perform pediatric clinical and basic science research.

OVERVIEW

The Darby Children's Research Institute (DCRI) is the research arm of the Department of Pediatrics and the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. The DCRI is comprised of basic and physician scientists working together with a common goal to perform impactful science that can be translated for the wellness of children’s health. The DCRI is composed of state-of- the-art laboratories with faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students spanning multiple disciplines in childhood health and disease.

The primary objective of The John Covington and Robert Lukey Scholarship is to provide funding for trainees to gain exposure to a clinical and basic science pediatric research environment in a nationally ranked academic medical center that will advance their career aspirations.

Must be able to physically work in a designated lab for an 8-week program.

Nationally Competitive Scholarships Available

The Office for Nationally Competitive Awards has two scholarships available for students.

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.

The Boren Scholars and Fellows are undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in building a career in public service by applying their language skills, cultural knowledge and academic credentials.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide that start between May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2022. This cycle encompasses Summer 2023, Fall 2023, Academic Year 2023-2024, and Spring 2023 programs.

Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad can apply for a supplemental award of up to $5,000. The Critical Need Language Award is competitive and offered to a limited number of Gilman scholars each year.

Boren Scholars

Boren Scholars and Fellows from diverse fields of study immerse themselves in the cultures in world regions underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Boren Awards offer up to $25,000 per year.

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is February 1st, 2023 at 5:00pm EST.

Apply today for the 2023 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program!

The CLS Program is an intensive, overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.

Selected students spend eight to ten weeks abroad studying 1 of 15 critical languages. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

The CLS Program actively seeks applicants whose study of a critical language relates to their academic field of interest and future career goals. Students in diverse fields of study, including STEM fields, law, medicine, international studies, and the humanities are encouraged to apply.

The National Application Deadline is November 15th, 8pm EST.
