Sysco, an International food distribution company, has up to $10,000 available in summer Internship opportunities.

The Sysco Summer Internship Program allows students interested in Corporate (GSC), Supply Chain, and Sales to earn 10,000 for a 10-week program (relocation stipends available).

Applications for the Fall ’23 SC Washington Semester Program are now open

The South Carolina Washington Semester Program (WSP) gives students in universities and colleges across the state of South Carolina the opportunity to spend a semester working and taking classes in Washington D.C., gaining valuable experience while earning academic credit toward their degrees.

The opportunity: Live/Learn/Work. Students live in a historic Capital Hill neighborhood, explore the city through group excursions, all while taking 15 credit hours.

  • 9 credit hours are applied towards a full-time internship in congressional, executive, judicial or private sector offices, which can be applied towards your Honors Immersed requirement.

Great fit forMany CofC Honors students have participated and thrived in this program over the years, with backgrounds ranging from political science to economics to international studies to public health. Participants get firsthand experience with the political process, obtaining skills that will help prepare them for careers in virtually any sphere.

Scholarships available: The program allocates support for students who demonstrate financial need and awards over $10,000 each year in scholarships.

Maroon Mentoring – Marketing Strategist Steve Logue – Feb. 27

Join Professor Affonso on Monday, February 27th to hear from Google Android Marketing Strategist Steve Logue.

Steve Logue is Head of Android Marketing Strategy at Google, where he looks after GTM plans and ecosystem partnerships globally. He is also an External Advisor at Bain & Co in the telco practice.

Prior to these roles, he worked 25 years in the mobile communications sector in the US, Latin America, Europe, and China. He was founder and CEO of Virgin Mobile Latin America, partnering with Sir Richard Branson and PE investors to build a mobile startup across the region.

Steve will be speaking in Beatty 320 on Monday, February 27th, from 10:00 to 10:50. All Honors Students are welcome to attend!

CofC alumnus Derek del Core ’13 discusses how his History degree made him uniquely prepared to thrive in the entertainment industry.

The Speaker: Derek del Core graduated from CofC with a History degree and has since worked in multiple roles in film and entertainment industries in both NYC and LA.

Study Abroad in Egypt

Planning a Study Abroad trip? Consider a semester full of pyramids and pharaohs at the American University of Cairo

The American University of Cairo program is supported by a generous scholarship from the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs; students are strongly encouraged to consider while planning for study abroad.

This exchange program is currently open for the Fall 2023 semester or Fall 2023-Spring 2024 year. 

Funding, up to $7,000 per semester, is available for study in Cairo, Egypt at the American University of Cairo. To apply for funding, see the links in the attached flyer.

Climate Change and the Law: Rising Tides Wash Up Legal Issues

Charleston School of Law and Furman University are hosting Climate Change and the Law: Rising Tides and Wash Up Legal Issues on Friday, February 24, 2023, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., at The Charleston Museum.

Featured will be conversations centered around the legality of climate change policy. Panels will include subjects such as; Trends in Climate Litigation, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Flood Management Projects and the Charleston Peninsula Study, Ethical Considerations in Climate Change: Renewable Energy, the Role of the Law Firm in a Changing Climate, and Other Considerations. 

This event is a great opportunity for any student interested in political science, law school, urban development, and sustainability.

Ambassador of Switzerland to the US Jacques Pitteloud at CofC

Ambassador of Switzerland to the US Jacques Pitteloud will be at CofC speaking to students on Thursday, February 16th, at 4:30pm in Rita 101.

Jacques Pitteloud has served as Ambassador of Switzerland to the US of America since 2019. He joined the Swiss Foreign Service in 1987. From 1990-1995, he served in the Swiss Strategic Intelligence Service. He acted as a personal advisor to two successive Defence Ministers until 1999.After having been a witness of the Rwanda Genocide in 1994, Dr Pitteloud created an organization dedicated to the task of hunting down and bringing to justice the perpetrators, and he managed to have several of them prosecuted both by the international as well as domestic courts. Ambassador Pitteloud headed the Swiss Delegation to the Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.From 2010 to 2015, Jacques Pitteloud was Swiss Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and the Seychelles.Dr Pitteloud earned a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D. from the Law School at the University of Zürich (Master 1986, PhD 1987). He speaks French, English, German, Swiss German, Italian, and Spanish fluently, and he has a basic knowledge of a few other languages.
