Help raise awareness for mental health in Charleston this May with Bridge the Gap

Local nonprofit Quest is hosting a month-long mental fitness challenge to raise mental health awareness with daily walks on the Ravanel Bridge.

The walks are guided by Quest on Campus students and community volunteers, who will share words of inspiration, provide information on local and national mental health resources, and foster a supportive environment.

  • To end this month-long effort, on 05/31 we have an amazing event with Amanda Oberhaus on top of the USS Yorktown–Sweat on the Ship.

Honors College Class of 2024 Boat Cruise

The Honors College is hosting a boat cruise for graduating Honors students!

The Date: Thursday, May 2 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

The Cruise: All aboard the Charleston Princess for a Blues & BBQ cruise. Enjoy live music, a BBQ buffet, and a cash bar alongside your fellow Honors graduates and Honors faculty/staff. Boarding begins at 6:30 p.m. and the boat sets sail promptly at 7:00 p.m. from the Charleston Maritime Center (10 Wharside St.) for a two-hour tour.

The Cost: Honors is subsidizing tickets for graduating seniors such that you can join us for a discounted rate of $30.

  • Because we’re subsidizing the tickets, participation is limited to graduating Honors students (no guests allowed, sorry!).

Join Honors College Faculty Fellow and Spanish faculty member Dr. Sharonah Fredrick for a Faculty Lecture Series discussion, She-Demons, Sensuous Goddesses, and Sorceresses: Wither the Female Image in Non-Western Mythology?

The discussion will focus on three archetypes of magical and rebellious females in world folklore and literature, and ask: What are the elements that made, and make, these images of strong and often dominant women popular in both matriarchal and patriarchal societies?
