Celebrate local Black culture at the annual Avery Family Reunion

The College’s Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture celebrates the opening of another academic year and pays honor to the local institutions founded to uplift the Black community by hosting the annual Avery Family Reunion.

When and where: Sunday, August 28 from 1 – 4 p.m. in Hampton Park.

What to expect: A farmers’ market featuring local Black farmers and growers, community giveaways, and plenty of local music, cuisine, artwork, artisans, and Gullah Geechee culture.

  • This year’s theme is MyHBCU, with an on-site college fair highlighting HBCU opportunities (including graduate school!).
