Congratulations to Honors Alumni – Erica Tracey, Brenna Norton-Baker, Andrew George, and Dyanne Vaught – for receiving National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships! Honors Alum, Tyler Perini, also earned an Honorable Mention.
The NSF GRFP helps ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and in STEM education.
Erica Tracey was a 2014 William Aiken Fellow graduate of the Honors College majoring in Biology. She is currently attending Emory University’s Ph.D. program in Neuroscience where she studies neural regeneration and functional recovery from nerve injury. She was named a Goldwater Scholar in 2013 to help fund her continuing education in a scientific field. In addition, Erica was a PF for BGS for three years. While at the college, she traveled to Germany to take part in the Neuroscience Seminar there. She presented her research on the snapping shrimp at numerous conferences and it was published in professional journals. She was also the recipient of the Bishop Robert Smith award, the college’s top award.

Andrew George was a 2014 graduate of the Honors College majoring in Marine Biology. Currently, he is pursuing a P.h.D. in Integrative Biology at The University of Chicago. Andrew is a former REU Biology Intern at Grice Marine Lab and was a Parasitology Research Intern and Assistant while at the college.
