During her time at the College, Caitlin Black ’12 studied biology and was an active member of the Honors College. Now, she’s continuing her studies by pursuing her PhD in Zoology at the University of Oxford. But her work isn’t just for high-level scientists; her team recently launched Penguin Watch, a site that depends on user participation for its research. Since the cameras were installed in 2009 at sites in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, they’ve collected nearly 200,000 images. Caitlin’s work–and the work of the “citizen scientists” that fuel the site–have helped the team examine breeding changes and the ways penguins spend the winter months.

To read about what you can learn by spying via Penguin Watch, check out this article on The College Today or read the Discover article about the origins of the project.
