Johns Island Water Festival: $10, short drive

What: Watersports, food trucks, live entertainment, and a dog park for your furry friend.

Who: Anyone who wants to cool off in the late summer heat. Dogs welcome.

Music on the Green Concert Series: free, short drive

What: Live music at Freshfields Village. This week is Rubberband, who will play a high-energy show mixed with disco, reggae, hip hop, funk, R&B and rock hits to keep everyone on their feet.

Who: Music lovers. Family-friendly event; kids welcome.

When & Where: Friday, July 25. 6 – 9pm. Freshfields Village Green, Crossroads of Kiawah, Seabrook and Johns Islands.

 

Sustainable Seafood Dinner: $75, short drive

What: Though pricey, this meal is worth every cent—five courses crafted by Middleton Place Restaurant’s Executive Chef Brandon Buck. 10% of the proceeds go to the South Carolina Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Initiative. Eating for a cause? Yes, please.

Who: People who enjoy America’s oldest landscaped garden and eating delicious, sustainable local seafood.

When & Where: Sunday, July 27, 6pm. Middleton Place. 4300 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414

 

Evenings in the Market: free, short walk

What: A weekly event downtown that features local artists, food vendors and designers. Every Thursday, Friday & Saturday from March to December.

Who: Tourists and locals alike. There’s something for every taste.

Johns Island Regional Book Sale: Books range from $0.50 – $3, short drive.

What: Books, CDs, and DVDs will all be on sale at this event hosted by the Charleston Friends of the Library. The proceeds will go towards equipment, training & materials for the library.

Who: Bookworms, music lovers and movie enthusiasts. Perfect for students on a shoestring budget.

When & Where: Friday, July 25, 9am – 4pm. Johns Island Library. 3531 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island, SC 29455

 

Fifth RIDEwin: Free, short walk from campus

What: Fifth annual celebration of Charleston, community and cycling. Bring your wheels.

Who: Cyclists and anyone else who thinks Charleston should be more bike-friendly.

When & Where: Saturday, July 26, 9am. Cannon Park, Calhoun St. and Rutledge Ave., Charleston SC 29401
