In Conclusion

I am equally as excited as I am scared to announce that I have finally launched my personal website! While the thought of my work being available to the public may spark my anxiety, I am nevertheless proud of each artifact that I chose to include.

Because I wanted the focus to remain on the content of my portfolio, I opted for a minimalist design. I personally thrive off organization and therefore chose to pursue what I believe to be the most user-friendly template.

My work is divided into three distinct categories (as well as an introduction and resume page) to best display my areas of interest. The first provides a range of academic essays surrounding my study of literature specifically. I wanted viewers to recognize that my skills as an English major are not limited to a specific time period or style of writing, and instead engage with writers and texts across time. I then utilized a page to display my rhetorical interactions with film and other forms of media. I felt that this not only proved my worth as a Film Studies minor, but similarly extended my knowledge and experience as a writer to nontraditional texts. The final page in my menu contains a collection of blogs – outlining my ability to perform less-formally for an outside audience. In each case, the artifacts demonstrate my versatility as an English scholar.

If I had more time, I might find ways to make my design more visually appealing. While I am proud of the final product, I worry that it may appear too plain. With one semester left I suppose I could make that my goal – to fine tune and update my portfolio before wrapping up my undergraduate studies. Perhaps by then my home page will not read “exploring opportunities for continuing my education” and instead announce my next step after graduating.
