IFTTT, or If This Then That, is an app available for iOS devices through iTunes and Android devices through Google play. The app makes it possible to create connections between services like LinkedIn, Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, Google Drive, Instagram, Evernote, and more. Within the app, you create “recipes” that specify a trigger and a response. For example, see below:
This app is designed to save you time and, according to the iTunes description, “put the internet to work for you.”
For ideas, you can view other popular and trending “recipes” from within the app. The possibilities of what you can do with this app are exciting as there are over 100 different services or channels to add to your connections. Here are some examples of what you can do with the app:
- Mute your phone when you get to school and unmute it on your drive home
- Send iPhone screenshots to Evernote
- Get notified when an astronaut enters space or tweet when the season changes on mars
- Find out when the International Space Station is overhead
