About Dr. Sims

Background: I am a proud College of Charleston alumna. I received my Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in Biomedical Science with a specialization in Neuroscience (Neuroscience Institute). During my time as a graduate student, I believed that it was important for me to obtain the training and skills to become a successful researcher as well as an effective educator. As a National Institute of Health F99/K00 Fellow, I had the flexibility to incorporate pedagogical courses into my graduate and postdoctoral training. During my postdoctoral training at MUSC (Department of Neurology), I taught Behavioral Neuroscience at the College of Charleston as an Adjunct Professor within the Department of Psychology.

Outside Interests: I enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks, going thrifting, playing the piano and violin (when I find the time), and drawing with my 4-year-old. I also really like doing Harry Potter Trivia!

Looking forward: Having attended the College of Charleston, I am thrilled to return to my home institution where I first fell in love with science and research. While I am excited to be mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and teaching upper-level neuroscience courses, I am also looking forward to a seminar course I am designing entitled “Neurological Diseases from the Cradle to the Grave.” Don’t worry, it’s not as grim as it sounds.
