Eight Students Achieve Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma

In a remarkable achievement, eight students with Supply Chain Management Major have successfully certified for a Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma. This accomplishment is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and the support of the SCIM department. The certification exams were made possible through the generous funding of the SCIM department, which is dedicated to providing opportunities for students to develop their skills and succeed in their future careers.

The certification exam was supervised by Maryam Mahdikhani, Ph.D., through the SCIM 366 course. The curriculum covered the fundamentals of Lean Six Sigma, including the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) methodology and tools such as process maps, flowcharts, and statistical analysis.

The students’ hard work and dedication paid off when they successfully passed the certification exam, earning their Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma. Certified Six Sigma Lean Yellow Belts are some of the most sought after professionals in the world. Based on data from Payscale.com and Indeed, Yellow Belts earn between $55,000 and $99,000 per year.

Obtaining a yellow belt certification in Lean Six Sigma can provide several benefits to an undergraduate student who has just graduated. Some of these benefits include:

  • Enhance employability: Having a yellow belt certification in Lean Six Sigma can enhance an undergraduate’s employability by showing potential employers that they have a foundational knowledge of process improvement methodologies. This can be especially valuable for students who are looking to enter fields such as manufacturing, logistics, or healthcare, where process improvement is highly valued.
  • Develop problem-solving skills: Lean Six Sigma methodologies are focused on problem-solving, and yellow belt training provides a solid foundation in these skills. This can be highly valuable for students as they enter the workforce and begin to face complex problems in their work. Yellow belt training can help them to approach these problems with a structured, data-driven approach.
  • Increase efficiency: Understanding the Lean Six Sigma methodologies can help undergraduates identify inefficiencies in processes and provide them with the tools to eliminate them. This can lead to improved productivity and efficiency in the workplace.

Overall, obtaining a yellow belt certification in Lean Six Sigma can be a valuable asset for an undergraduate student who is just starting their career. It can provide them with a solid foundation in process improvement methodologies, develop their problem-solving and leadership skills, and enhance their employability in a variety of fields.
