I decided on trying to imitate Mullen’s style of prose poetry while maintaining her use of clothing and material things to suggest something larger about my life. It was hard to come up with something even close to what Mullen portrays in her book Trimmings, however this is an attempt at bringing her through my own poetry. I call this one “Panties”
It’s funny how you pick them, strange and foreign but so close to what you know. Understand this, they are here to shine through your once male-dominated choice, now denimized on your ass for them to see. Don’t let them see you pull it, but let them know it’s there, for heaven’s sake they better be there.
IT is very hard to imitate–especially to get that density of language and punning. I would have like to hear your reflection on the poem you wrote and what you found difficult / successful about it. A key aspect of these imitation posts is to explain or engage your imitation a bit!
