Bored in class? Think you could do a better job teaching? Come find out! Advanced undergraduates who wish to enhance their understanding of effective pedagogy and gain teaching experience can enroll as a teaching apprentice for a semester. Apprentices are typically invited to participate by faculty mentors (i.e., you cannot simply sign up online). Teaching apprentices engage in a variety of activities including developing a syllabus, creating course lectures and demonstrations, holding office hours, exploring advanced readings in pedagogy, writing test questions, and supporting students in a core psychology course. If you want to learn more before enrolling, check out Dan Willingham’s book about why students don’t like school – incredible insights about teaching driven by the science of the mind.
