ENGL 517: Literature and War, Ancient to Future
Professor: Dr. Mike Livingston
Location: The Citadel (Room TBD)
Time: Tuesday 7:00 – 9:45
Warfare has been a constant in human history. In this course we will examine the literary responses to the traumas of conflict from our earliest sources to today. Texts will range from historical examples like Homer’s Iliad and the medieval Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to modern contemplations of the future in Science Fiction. Our aim will be to investigate the continuity of not just why human beings have waged war, but how they have coped with the experience.
