Serve as an Overnight Host to a Prospective Student during Honors Interview Weekend

The Honors College is seeking hosts to help with Honors Interview Weekend.

The Opportunity: The annual Honors College Interview Weekend will be held Friday, February 7 – Saturday, February 8 this spring, and we need current students living on campus to serve as an overnight host for prospective students who will be attending the event.

The time commitment runs from late Friday afternoon through Friday evening and wraps up Saturday morning (see below for more details).

The Benefits: By hosting prospective students, you get a chance to share with them why you chose CofC Honors and to support them during the college decision process. You will also be helping our Honors College team out; this event is absolutely not possible without student hosts.

How to Sign Up: Please complete the hosting survey by January 10, 2025. If you have any questions, you can email Bridget Alaniva at AlanivaB@cofc.edu or stop into the Honors admissions office in 6 Green Way and speak with her directly.

FAQs About Serving as an Interview Weekend Host:

You must be living on-campus in order to serve as a host.
The prospective students will bring their own bedding and will anticipate sleeping on floors, common room couches, etc.
Please note that you will be expected to follow all Residence Life policies, such as checking in and staying with your guests at all times.
As a host, you will need to attend a brief training session prior to the weekend.
Make sure you discuss with your room/suite mates about how many guests you can accommodate.

4:00-5:00 p.m. Meet and move in your prospective students

6:15 p.m. Drop prospective students off for dinner

8:00 p.m. Pick up prospective students

MUSC Children’s Research Summer Fellowship

You’re invited to apply for a summer program scholarship at the Darby Children’s Research Institute at MUSC!

Details: The primary objective of The John Covington and Robert Lukey Scholarship is to provide funding for undergraduate trainees to gain exposure to a clinical and basic science pediatric research environment at MUSC at a nationally ranked academic medical center that will advance their career aspirations.

Great Fit For: Students with science majors considering a future in graduate school (MD, PhD), with the possibility in pediatrics.

Benefits: $5,000 summer stipend (with the option of housing).

OVERVIEW

The Darby Children's Research Institute (DCRI) is the research arm of the Department of Pediatrics and the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. The DCRI is comprised of basic and physician scientists working together with a common goal to perform impactful science that can be translated for the wellness of children’s health. The DCRI is composed of state-of-the-art laboratories with faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students spanning multiple disciplines in childhood health and disease.

NCA Award of the Month: The NOAA Hollings Scholarship!

Are you a sophomore studying oceanic, atmospheric, or environmental science? Are you interested in having a summer internship at a NOAA facility?

The Award: If so, consider applying to the NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program! The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with scholarship funding (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a NOAA facility during the summer.
