Naturalist Position for Graduating Students

The Barrier Island Environmental Education Program looking for graduated or soon-to-be graduating applicants for their naturalist position!

About the Program: The Barrier Island Environmental Education Program is located on Seabrook Island, 25 miles south of Charleston, and serves K-12 students from across the Southeast by providing educational experiences in coastal environments.

The Position: Environmental educators or “naturalists” teach and engage visiting grade-school students through outdoor, experiential programming that covers the ecological dynamics, wildlife, and natural phenomena of a Lowcountry barrier island. The goals of this role are to introduce students to ecological concepts, help students overcome fears associated with the outdoors, and spark students’ interest, curiosity, and passion for the natural world. Details: This role is full-time and seasonal (August through May). A bachelor’s degree is required. Compensation includes a $320/week stipend (paid biweekly), beachside lodging (individual room), free laundry, meals provided, Wi-Fi access, and professional development throughout the season. Optional benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, and Life.

Research Opportunity in Translational Spine Project at CofC/MUSC

Dr. Sarah Porto is seeking a research assistant to help with an NIH-funded study investigating the effect of amyloid deposition on spine mechanics and tissue integrity.

The Research: Gain laboratory research experience with tissue dissection, cell and molecular biology techniques (i.e., immunohistochemistry with confocal microscopy, histology, and proteomics), tissue culture, biochemical and biomechanical testing, and preparation of experimental results for presentation and publication.
