Join a Health Care Mentorship Program Hosted by MUSC’s College of Health Professions!

The MUSC College of Health Professions Health Professions Exploration Program (HPEP) is now accepting applications for the 2025 program!

The Opportunity: The HPEP is a career exposure and mentoring program for students interested in the health professions. The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for students to learn more about the health professions, tour MUSC’s state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, gain information that will assist with preparation to graduate healthcare programs, and engage in activities that support career planning and professional development.

Great Fit For: All undergraduate students with an interest in the allied health professions (Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Health Administration, Cardiovascular Perfusion, and more!)

Details: Participation in the program is free and lunch and parking waivers are provided to all participating students at each session.

The Topic: From Inca Peru to Shakespeare’s England/Ireland, from Colonial Mexico to the birth of the USA, cross-dressing has been a constant phenomenon in Europe and the Americas and serves as a fascinating avenue to explore original creations, and reworkings, of traditional ideas of gender.

The Discussion/Workshop will explore some famous cases of cross-dressing that help to illustrate these fascinating and constantly evolving concepts of men dressing as women and women dressing as men, as well as definitions of masculinity and femininity in diverse cultures.

  • Honors students are encouraged to also bring their own examples and discuss and share ideas.

Hands of Hope Service Year Opportunity

Hands of Hope AmeriCorps is offering a service year opportunity for students to care for infants and children up to age six who are at risk for abuse and neglect in Houston, TX.

The Opportunity: Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will serve these vulnerable children throughout a 12-month commitment, living in a private, gated community (at no cost) and receiving a living allowance. The service year will span from September 2025 through August 2026.

Impact and Details: Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps Members in the home to ensure that children’s physical, emotional, and mental needs are met. While the commitment to the organization is only one year, the impact AmeriCorps Members have on the children in their care is lifelong. In turn, the children’s strength, resilience, and love will also make a lifelong impact on you.

Great Fit For: Graduating seniors with an interest in public health, social justice, or working with children.

W.N. Looper Award supports summer internships on Capitol Hill

The W.N. Looper Award provides financial support for students majoring within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to complete a summer internship with the United States Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The Award: $4,000 will be awarded to support the recipient’s living expenses during their time in Washington, D.C. The recipient will be selected based on the established criteria and responses to the essay questions describing the impact this opportunity would have in reaching their educational and career goals.

Great Fit For: A freshman, sophomore, or junior majoring within the Humanities and Social Sciences and looking to gain experience working in politics.
