The ceremony annually celebrates some of the best and brightest ever to walk the bricks. This year’s award recipients include three Honors alums: attorney Derrick Williams ’99; U.S. Olympian and engineer Canyon Barry ’16; and international humanitarian Maggie Panetta ’17.

Homecoming 2024’s finale event! Indulge in an all-inclusive offering of oysters, whole hog barbecue, chili, hot dogs, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, live music, student performances, and more!

Select Company: For the first time ever, the Alumni Association has invited Honors students to join Dean Meyer-Bernstein in representing the Honors College at the ceremony. Student attendees are also invited to attend the oyster roast afterwards (you must attend the ceremony to go to the oyster roast).

The Event: Frequented by photographers and nature lovers from around the world, the 18,000-acre wildlife sanctuary offers a beauty unsurpassed in the South Carolina Lowcountry. We will explore a portion of the sanctuary from the 1.75-mile boardwalk as it winds through the old-growth, cypress-tupelo swamp portion.

About the Speaker: Maggie Panetta ’17 serves as a Program Officer for Grant Coordination & Post-Award Management at the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Since joining IRC in 2018, she has made significant contributions to global humanitarian efforts, particularly in conflict-affected regions in the Middle East and North Africa region. Her work focuses on fundraising, program quality, financial management, business development, refugee support, and grant coordination. Learn more.
