The Topic: From Inca Peru to Shakespeare’s England/Ireland, from Colonial Mexico to the birth of the USA, cross-dressing has been a constant phenomenon in Europe and the Americas and serves as a fascinating avenue to explore original creations, and reworkings, of traditional ideas of gender.

The Lecture/Workshop will explore some famous cases of cross-dressing that help to illustrate these fascinating and constantly evolving concepts of men dressing as women and women dressing as men, as well as definitions of masculinity and femininity in diverse cultures.

• Honors students are encouraged to also bring their own examples and discuss and share ideas.
