Honors students: live and study in colorful Lisbon next summer, all while earning Honors credit!
The program: Two 3-credit courses including a Special Topics course, Evidence-Based Medicine and an Honors Immersed/Independent Study course focused on how the built environment supports active living within Lisbon.
- Class content: Addresses specific health care issues, relevant public health policy, and unique city infrastructure within Lisbon.
The benefits: Earn Honors advanced studies and Honors immersed credit, all while experiencing Portuguese culture through a walking tour, cooking class with traditional dishes and pastries, fado show, and community celebrations.
Great fit for: All Honors students (no specific major required), particularly those majoring in Exercise Science and Public Health.

Who: Honors College students (no specific majors required), Exercise Science or Public Health majors
What: Study options include:
- A 3-credit research experience evaluating the active living environment in Lisbon. Students visit and assess local parks. All necessary training provided within the course. Credit towards HONS 395, EXSC 401 or HEAL 401.
AND/OR
- A 3-credit Evidence-Based Medicine course focused on Portugal's drug decriminalization policies. Credit towards HONS 390 or EXSC 320. Summer 1 Session 2023: June 4- June 24
Where: Lisbon, Portugal – residence hall accommodations with access to kitchen space for cooking
Why: Study Abroad with a focus on health science Activities include a group cooking class, walking and biking tours, group dinners, singing performance (Fado show), tile workshop, drug treatment center excursion, and guest lectures from local professional and content experts!
