Front Desk Position in the Center for Student Learning (CSL)

The Front Desk Assistant serves as the first contact for students, faculty, staff, guests, and other drop-ins. The CSL is located on the first floor of the Addlestone Library. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to multi-task in a bustling office.

The Center for Student Learning (CSL) at the College of Charleston is seeking a hard-working, customer-service-centered student to work part-time in their physical office for the academic year of 2022-2023. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursdays 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Fridays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and occasional Sundays from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

Answering telephone(s) and routing calls to appropriate individuals/offices on campus; monitoring the email; assisting students in scheduling appointments for staff; greeting and interacting with visitors/guests to the CSL; assisting students with making appointments for tutoring services; providing high levels of customer service; creating a welcome and inclusive environment for all individuals.

Ongoing use of copier, scanner, and paper shredder will be required. Additionally, they will guide student employees with timesheet completion and support Lab Directors and CSL staff with all administrative needs.

Other duties to be performed as assigned, such as creating banners, signs, and bulletin boards.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; general knowledge of campus resources; ability to interact with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and to exhibit a positive, helpful attitude; ability to work and maintain focus in a sometimes demanding and stressful environment; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook for mail and calendar purposes (preferred).
