On December 7th, from 5:30-8:30 pm, Coastal Communiy Foundation will host a public reception and exhibit for the new works by Amanda McLenon.
The 2012 winner of the Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year Award, McLenon is the 8th artist to be recognized by the Lowcountry Artist Award Fund. The fund provides a $5,000 award intended to support the selected artist during the creation of a work of art depicting “the look and feel of the Lowcountry”. The finished work is then the personal property of the artist, to keep, show or sell at his or her discretion.
Here at the Graduate School, we recognize McLenon as a previous student. Recently completing her Masters in Marine Biology at the College of Charleston, she combines her understanding of science with her passion for the arts to capture the beauty of the Lowcountry environment. Most of her artwork is completed on upcycled materials.
Coastal Community Foundation invites the public to celebrate McLenon’s new works, at the opening reception December 7th, and experience what lies “BENEATH the rising tide”. Many of the works will be available for purchase, and a special limited edition print will be created for the show. Coastal Community Foundation is located at 635 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.
