Spring Charleston Wine + Food Internship Opportunities

CW+F will be looking to fill the following internship positions:

(1)   Event Management Intern

(1)   Development Intern

(1)   Culinary Talent Intern

(2)   Beverage Talent Interns


Position Title: (1) Event Management Intern

Position Description:

Interns will gain hands-on experience in the planning and production of the Charleston Wine + Food festival. Tasks will range from interacting with exhibitors and vendors to volunteer management. This opportunity will allow interns to gain insight into the preparation and execution of a five day event with 23,500 attendees and 400+ volunteers.

  • Review participant and application forms for equipment needs and input into tracking documents.
  • Communicate with participants to explain load-in procedures, obtain contact information, and complete a general advance of the event
  • Develop and update volunteer and participant training documents.
  • Prepare event production binders/important information and packets for key participants
  • Work with staff and volunteers on-site to:

o Ensure that all participants arrive at their scheduled time

o Ensure that all participants receive updated information on-site, if necessary

  • Assist Event Manager with event load-in and load-out
  • Create a post-event report and assist with wrap-up and thank you letters
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Required:

  • Must be organized with diligent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work proactively
  • Professional writing and communication skills with excellent grammar
  • Microsoft Office with knowledge and experience in Excel
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and build teamwork
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor setting (RAIN, COLD, MUD)
  • Ability to do some physical work (lifting boxes, field set-up)
  • Past event experience is a plus

Dates of Opportunity:

Preference for interns available for both a Fall and Spring internship. Hours and schedule to be determined in consultation with Program Manager

  • Fall – at least 10 hours/week, Spring – at least 16 hours/week+ during event week

Festival: Wednesday, March 1 – Sunday, March 5, 2017

Load-in: Friday, February 23 – Thursday, March 2, 2017

Position Title: (1) Development Intern

Position Description:

Charleston Wine + Food is a non-profit organization that celebrates the renowned food culture of Charleston, SC during a five-day festival the first weekend of every March. With a local food culture rich in tradition, James Beard Award-winning chefs, and the best city to visit in the world (according to Condé Nast Traveler’s 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards), Charleston Wine + Food infuses home-grown flavor with top chefs, winemakers, authors, storytellers and food enthusiasts. This internship is a great opportunity to get front-and-center, hands-on experience in the exciting non-profit and event world and be involved in one of the most anticipated wine and food festivals in the nation.

Position involves:

o   Assisting with logistics and execution of VIP events ranging from large format to intimate dinners

o   Managing mailings, invitations, RSVPs and large quantities of hand-written notes

o   Assisting in the organization and dissemination of VIP related credentials and collateral

o   Assisting with deliveries and other miscellaneous tasks relating to Development and other departments

Skills Required:

–     Must be available to work all day February 28  – March 7, 2016 (Spring Internship only)

o    Note can be provided for any classes missed

–     Must be flexible to working nights and weekends on occasion

–     Must have valid driver’s license and preferably have access to a vehicle

–     Highly organized

–     High attention to detail

–     Hard working

–     Self-motivated

–     Creative problem solving skills

–     Excellent communication and written skills

–     Basic computer skills with advanced proficiency in Excel

–     Light physical labor (setting up and breaking down of events)

Position Title: (1) Culinary Talent Intern

Position Description:

Charleston Wine + Food Culinary Talent Internships are an exciting opportunity for a hands-on experience assisting with the coordination and logistics of all Chef Talent and their events throughout the 2017 festival.

Duties will include, but are not restricted to:

Ø  Data entry (excellent computer skills are a must)

Ø  Some light physical labor

Ø  Some phone work, handwritten cards and addressing envelopes

Ø  Assistance in obtaining event copy, talent headshots and bios and contact information

Ø  Data entry in Marcato event planning software

 Skills Required:

  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Proficiency in: Excel, Word and Google Docs
  • Candidates should be extremely organized with great time management skills
  • Ability to work with a variety or people and assist with last-minute details
  • A willingness to work hard and positive/flexible attitude are a must
  • Interest and/or experience in the food and beverage industry

Dates of Opportunity:

August 2016 – April 2017

At least 10 hours/week and 16 hours/week+ during event week

Position Title: (2) Beverage Talent Manager Intern

Position Description:

Charleston Wine + Food is looking for 1-2 organized, energetic go-getters to coordinate, plan and execute the 12th annual Charleston Wine + Food festival, March 1-5, 2017.

 Skills Required:

-Ability to work independently while also contributing to team goals

-Strong attention to detail

-Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and outside vendors, etc.

-Proficiency in Excel, Google Drive, Dropbox

-Ability to research + report

-Interest in event management a plus

-Ability to complete projects on time

-Use of personal computer

-Ability to collaborate, problem solve, and follow directives 

Dates of Opportunity:

12-20 hours per week*, September 2016 – April 2017

*Must be available to work festival week, March 1-5, 2017

Compensation: Academic Credit Only
