Now Hiring: CofC President’s Office Seeks Grad Student

Position: President’s Office/Office of the Board of Trustees Office Assistant-Graduate Student

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Secretary to the Board of Trustees/Vice President for College Events, the graduate assistant working in the President’s Office assists with day to day administrative responsibilities, helps prepare items for the Board of Trustees, and assists with preparations for upcoming events organized by the Office of the Board of Trustees and the President’s Office.  Daily activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Answering and appropriately directing incoming calls to the President’s Office from both internal and external constituencies
  • Conducting research on pertinent areas of concern to the Board of Trustees at the direction of the Secretary to the Board of Trustees
  • Assisting with preparations for quarterly Board of Trustees meetings and alternating quarterly Executive and Finance Committee Meetings as well as all other special meetings of the Board
  • Assisting with preparation for and participation in campus events, including all Commencement Ceremonies, Convocation, Sottile House Tree Lighting, Faculty/ Staff Holiday Party, etc.
  • Compiling e-mail, mailings and invitations to the Board of Trustees and other campus constituencies that may include calendars of campus events, recent College publications, information on legislation and policies affecting higher education, information on practices at other institutions, and event/ceremony invitations
  • Maintaining online Board Portal (a secure website used only by the Board of Trustees)
  • Maintaining minutes for the Community Outreach Committee and the Honorary Degree/Commencement Speaker Committee meetings, as well as other staff or Board meetings as needed
  • Reserving guest house rooms for Board of Trustees members and other College guests as needed; maintaining records of all Board Guest House reservations
  • Administrative duties as needed
Qualifications/knowledge/skills desired: Graduate Student at the College of Charleston; Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint; Experienced in internet research; Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; Flexible schedule (some evening/weekends required), but discretion, confidentiality, dependability, strong attention to detail and professionalism are paramount.
