Position Description: Under the guidance and direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Athletics Communications Associate assists with athletics communications activities, including but not limited to: statistics, writing sports specific content, social media responsibilities, national rankings platform, student-athlete awards, and website maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Assist with all aspects of statistical reporting for sports of the NJCAA – including in-season oversight for all sports that utilize the NJCAA PrestoSports Stats system.
- Assist and maintain NJCAA historical archives, including sport-by-sport record books, student-athlete awards, all-time drafted players, national champions, and all-time national rankings.
- Assist with social media monitoring and posting on main NJCAA and sport specific social media accounts.
- Provide graphic design assistance for sports specific content including national rankings, players of the week, statistical leaders, significant matchups, sport schedules, national awards, national championships and former NJCAA student-athletes at four-year or professional level.
- Manage the communications effort for NJCAA sports throughout the year including national rankings, players of the week, statistical leaders, national awards, national championships, weekly statistical leaders, record-breaking performances and former NJCAA student-athletes at four-year or professional level.
- Oversee the NJCAA national rankings platform and serve as a contact for voting committees for all sports over the duration of the sports year. Includes compiling weekly statistical reports for national rankings.
- Assist with post-season coverage including tracking district tournaments/championships, preparing storylines and statistical information for national championships.
- Coordinate with NJCAA championship team and championship hosts on historical information, statistics, regular season and team specific storylines and championship communications management.
- Possible occasional travel to national championship events, which would include serving as national office contact on-site, assisting with statistics management, streaming production and/or championship logistics.
- Provide statistical information, historical records and storylines to NJCAA Network producers and talent.
- External and internal communications through public press releases, including association-wide news and feature stories.
- Support the marketing and communications team in the following key areas: membership communications, website content management, social media, and marketing campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, a focus on sport management, communications, and media preferred.
- Previous professional experience in the sports information or college athletics field with responsibility for a combination of duties involving statistics, website maintenance, social media, communications, and writing.
- Demonstrated customer service, organization, leadership, planning, and conflict management.
- A good command of Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite application software, current social media platforms, statistical input entry platforms, and website maintenance.
- The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to establish positive public relations and to interact effectively with staff, member colleges, athletic directors, student-athletes, fans and the public.
- The ability to establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with team members, member colleges, athletic directors, student-athletes and the public.
- Problem solving skills, judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information.
- The ability to write effectively and efficiently.
- The ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
- Must be efficient and organized with a high level of attention to detail.
