Position Description: The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist the NASF Communications Director with communications initiatives and programming, manage NASF’s social media accounts, edit and develop online and print assets, and run short- and long-term outreach campaigns. This full-time (salaried, exempt) position reports to the NASF Communications Director and is based in Washington, D.C. Moderate (up to quarter-time) travel is required.
Major Functions/Accountabilities:
- WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
- Maintain the association’s websites, online assets, and distribution lists
- Create content for, post to, and maintain NASF’s social media channels on a daily basis (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and weekly to monthly basis (Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest)
- Utilize platforms like Meltwater to curate stories for social media, the weekly newsletter, and policy updates
- Regularly write blog posts in support of strategic policy and communications initiatives and campaigns
- Contribute to and implement NASF’s branding and outreach strategies
- Organize, manage, add to, and update contact information for outreach purposes
- GRAPHIC DESIGN
- Create infographics/graphics/images in Canva and Adobe applications on a daily basis in support of strategic policy and communications initiatives and campaigns
- Assist in print layout and design as needed to support the development of campaign collateral and/or publications
- COOPERATIVE FOREST FIRE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN (SMOKEY BEAR)
- Participate in meetings and calls with the Ad Council and the USDA Forest Service, assisting Communications Director on the national Smokey Bear wildfire prevention campaign
- Provide logistical and administrative support to campaign as directed by Communications Director
- COMMITTEE SUPPORT
- Support committee communications projects and presentations to feature State Forester issues online, in print publications, and at speaking opportunities
- Provide communications and organizational support to the NASF Awards Committee and the Cooperative Forest Fire Protection committees
- ANNUAL MEETING AND ANNUAL REPORT
- Assist with program layout/publication, content development for online promotion, and website management
- Provide pre-event and on-site event management assistance including audio/visual needs, room layout, awards coordination, etc.
- Assist Communications Director in the production, editing, and publication of the annual report and other annual meeting print materia
- OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Interface with Policy Director, Executive Director, and Committee Staff to ensure consistent messaging and maximize effectiveness of NASF efforts
- Assist in producing ad hoc print and digital publications for NASF and its partners
- Provide support outside of job description as needed to assist other team members in small office environment
Qualifications: Professional experience in a communications role and a Bachelor’s degree are required. Additional requirements include:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines, prioritize projects, and manage online content
- Proven skills in use of social media platforms and graphic design tools
- Ability to contribute in a small office team environment
Required core competencies include: interpersonal skills, forward thinking, critical thinking, leadership skills, and persuasive communication. Required technical competencies include: writing skills and graphic design skills.
