Internship with Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission
The Charleston County Park system features over 11,000 acres of property and includes four land parks, three beach parks, four seasonally-lifeguarded beach areas, three dog parks, two landmark fishing piers, three waterparks, a historic plantation site, 19 boat landings, a skate park, a climbing wall, a challenge course, an interpretive center, an equestrian center, cottages, a campground, a marina, as well as wedding, meeting and event facilities. The park system also offers a wide variety of recreational services – festivals, camps, classes, programs, volunteer opportunities, and more. The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission mission is to improve the quality of life in Charleston County by offering a diverse system of park facilities, programs, and services.
A Marketing Intern can expect to be conducting photo shoots of various parks and events, conducting market research and development of an annual Marketing Plan, developing a publicity plan for a TBD topic and work with the PIC in its execution, working with marketing team on developing a PR campaign, supporting public relations duties by writing press releases, blogs, scripts and articles, assisting with T.V./radio interview preparation with potential to contribute to conducting an interview, researching and writing talking points, tracking media coverage on a weekly basis, seeking out new media and publicity opportunities not currently being pursued, acting as a backup/support for media inquiries, fact checking, and fulfilling other media needs, managing online event listings, seeking out newsworthy stories within the agency and assisting in story pitching, assisting with engagement of potential new partnership opportunities and fulfillment of current partnership agreements and contributing to social media content.
Applicants must be a student currently enrolled in a college or university actively taking classes working towards a bachelor’s or upper level degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or English. We ask that candidates submit a CCPRC Intern Application, with Cover Letter, Resume, and a Reference Statement from their advisor. Other requirements include, find local housing, possess a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation, be able to provide appropriate identification according to I-9 requirements, and submit to a background check and drug testing.
