Position Description: The LEAD1 Association, a national association representing 130 of the largest college athletic programs in the U.S. and based in D.C. and Virginia, is seeking a Communications Assistant to help frame and implement a communications strategy for the Association. The successful candidate must have a combination of a bachelor’s degree and three or more years of experience creating and managing digital content, preferably working in sports. The individual will work closely with the Director of Business Operations and Development. The individual will assist in executing the strategic vision for the Association’s communications strategy and produce various forms of digital content for social media accounts.
The candidate should have practical experience and demonstrated skills in content creation and social media strategy. Experience working within an athletic department or conference office at the collegiate level is preferred. The individual must have the ability to work well with a variety of constituents, including athletics directors, administrators and staff at member institutions.
Specific Areas of Responsibility and Examples of Duties: The communications assistant supports all aspects of The Association’s digital department promoting the mission of the Association and its 130 member institutions. The individual will help manage a comprehensive plan that requires strong written and communication skills. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and experience working with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are also required. Specific responsibilities and duties include:
- Support the implementation of year-long communication plans in concert with the Association’s overall strategic branding efforts
- Generate comprehensive content strategies across all LEAD1 digital platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and LEAD1Association.com) to enhance membership engagement
- Write and publish feature stories, press releases and social media content that promotes the Association’s brand identity
- Assist with the creation and design of social media graphics
- Collaborate with Director of Business Operations and Development to ensure branding and style requirements are met
- Monitor trends in digital communications
- Ensure working knowledge on all NCAA compliance issues that pertain to communications matters
- Assist with other Association-related functions as assigned.
Notes: This position is full-time. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes participation in the conference’s employee benefit plan.
