Position Summary: The DBSA Communications Director will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and executing DBSA’s communications strategies and initiatives to reach our key audiences: individuals living with a mood disorder, parents and caregivers, and clinicians. This individual will work in close collaboration with all DBSA leaders and staff to provide strategic counsel while, at the same time, ensuring DBSA’s messaging and branding are consistent with the mission and vision of the organization. The Communications Director will have one direct report to supervise and mentor (Communications Manager), as well as manage communications-related contractors and vendors, and any future communication staff, interns, or volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, execute, and oversee communications, public relations, and marketing strategies to enhance constituent loyalty
- Strategically enhance and expand digital presence, including utilization of DBSA’s extensive website assets and social media presence, as well as oversee DBSA’s written publications
- Manage DBSA messaging, voice and tone
- Collaborate with management team on external position papers, speeches and talking points
- Work cross-functionally across the organization to advance DBSA’s strategic priorities through a fully integrated communications strategy, including:
- Enhance efficacy of DBSA national and local public policy and advocacy initiatives
- Support donor communications, engagement and fundraising initiatives
- Ensure all programs, campaigns, and initiatives are promoted through all channels to core constituents
- Promote DBSA resources to effectively reach peers, caregivers and clinicians
- Analyze metrics to determine the effectiveness of the various strategies
- Supervise and mentor the Communications Manager to ensure objectives are met and to promote their professional development
- Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
This position requires prior demonstrated success in directing and leading communication initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in marketing, communications, media/public relations, business or related field
- Minimum of five years related experience, including supervisory experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as listening and interpersonal skills necessary
- Demonstrated success in expanding organizational brand and program awareness
- Professional experience managing cross-channel marketing and communication strategies including, but not limited to, website, print and electronic newsletters, direct mail, events, and social media.
- Excellent organizational skills and high level of attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to pick up on systems and data bases with minimal training
- Commitment to supporting and empowering individuals living with a mental health condition; prior personal or professional experience with mental health preferred
Notes: Additional Salary Information: This is a full-time position with benefits including health, dental, vision, disability, 401(k) and life insurance. Position will primarily work standard hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, flexible start/end times possible.
