Dallas County Medical Society: Seeking Communications & Publications Manager

Position Description:  Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Communications and Publications Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of various publications produced by the Dallas County Medical Society and creating written content for multiple communications channels.  The Communications and Publications Manager will be skilled in managing multiple projects with varying deadlines, communicating effectively and proactively with volunteer committee members, vendors, and stakeholders.

Key Characteristics and Skills:  

  • Experience with managing a range of print and online publications, including a monthly journal, membership magazine/newsletters, social media and other value-based written communications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbal) with doctoral-level professionals.
  • Experience in membership associations, non-profits or other volunteer-based organizations.
  • Knowledge and experience with InDesign software program.
  • Experience with drafting written content for multiple communications channels.
  • Proficient in use of computer software and a strong background in social media platforms, website maintenance, email service providers and customer relationship management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat, as well as ability to work in a database environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communications and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to present information and interact fluidly with volunteers.
  • Conduct analytics of publications to determine readership and engagement trends.
  • Manage multiple projects, be a team player and have a high attention to detail.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Accountabilities:  

Specifically, this position will be responsible for:

  • Dallas Medical Journal (DMJ):
    • Manage all aspects of the monthly publication and distribution of the DMJ from concept to publication.  Management entails frequent interaction with the Editor, contributors, authors, advertisers and management of various websites and design that facilitate the on-time production of the publication.
  • Digital Communications:
    • Manage the publication and distribution of membership digital information (email blasts, special communications, etc).  Working with DCMS staff, collect and edit submissions for use in digital communications. Produce written content for the communications as needed.
  • Social Media:
    • Provide leadership in social media engagement, content creation and distribution to a variety of audiences. Produce written content for social media as needed and monitor/report success metrics and analytics.
