With Who: Cultivate SciArt
Location: Remote (based in Charleston, SC)
Dates: Spring 2021
Position Description: Due to Covid-19 this will be a virtual internship, with the possibility for some in person activities in accordance with CDC, DHEC, College of Charleston and personal health guidelines. The internship can be successfully completed virtually.
Duties and Tasks: The intern will assist in building and maintaining public engagement with Cultivate SciArt digital events and online material.

Create online science art blogs (event recaps).

Curate past event photo albums.

Create newsletters, graphics, web pages and social media posts to engage public.

Assess and improve online engagement methods.

Manage projects and update progress using Asana, Google drive protocols and files, weekly Zoom meetings and scheduled virtual work hours for communication and mentorship support.
Qualifications: Applicants should be in their sophomore year of college, or beyond, and must be able to work 10 hours per week during the academic semester. Candidates should be interested in developing visual and written communication skills, researching, and integrating science, art and social issues. Check with your department if option for academic credit. Otherwise contact career center to enroll in the Certificate Internship Program (CIP). Because of the interdisciplinary nature of Cultivate’s work, this internship is rewarding for most majors and we work with you to develop learning objectives tailored to your interests. Learning Objectives:
- The intern will learn various design and communications software, including: mailchimp, canva, wix, surveymonkey, eventbrite, business and group social media accounts.
- The intern will develop copyediting skills for professional publications.
- The intern will have the opportunity to observe and give input into science and art programming, public engagement methods, program assessment, strategic partnership development, nonprofit management and fundraising.
- Part-time employment might be an option following successful internship.
