Position Description: The Director of Marketing & Communications directly supports the School’s strategic plan and Dean’s initiatives by developing and implementing a marketing communication plan and promoting projects to constituents, such as prospective & existing students, the School’s Board of Governors, alumni, business partners, other institutional/global partners, and the Charleston and campus communities. Serves as member of Dean’s leadership team, as well as a key liaison between the School of Business and leaders within the campus divisions.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing/Brand Management or related field. 2-3 year of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, media or public relations. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Creative graphic design expertise, excellent written and oral communication abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator & InDesign, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Cascade CMS, and AxisTV. e-Procure, p-card state guidelines.
Job Duties:
- 15%: Manages and performs the day-to-day operations to support the marketing communications campaign for the recruitment and awareness for the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS), Continuing and Professional Education, and MBA programs. Executes metrics-driven initiatives with measurable outcomes to optimize BPS strategic planning and marketing campaigns. Confers with the Dean and the College Marketing team on strategies and concepts. Leads, manages, and directs all elements of campaigns, from creative concepts through production to final execution that help the BPS program meet enrollment and student satisfaction goals and objectives. Coordinates and manages digital marketing projects and content marketing strategies. Responsible for social media (with the collaboration of the Associate Director), digital advertising, email campaigns, website maintenance, CRM maintenance and development and project management.
- 30%: Owns high-level marketing strategy for the College of Charleston School of Business and provides strategic marketing guidance to School of Business leadership. Support the dean in the strategic planning process — aligning the School of Business with that of the College (vis a vis College of Charleston strategic plan) and of the accreditation standards put in place by the AACSB. Keeps all School of Business constituencies (e.g., the Board of Governors) informed of the latest marketing and communications initiatives happening at the business school. Plans, executes, and supervises School of Business undergraduate program marketing campaigns, content development, and website/social media development and maintenance. Directs budget allocation to meet marketing and communication goals. Selects vendors based on pricing and service delivery.
- 15%: Develops, oversees and manages area budgets. Provides advice and approval to units within division regarding budget expenditures and personnel spending. Develops, oversees and manages five employees:
- Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, School of Business
- Digital Marketing Intern
- Graduate Assistant
- Communications Intern
- 10%: Manages and oversees the brand audit and rebrand of the School of Business, which requires relationship management with an advertising agency. In managing those agency relations, the director makes strategic decisions and approves final projects and deliverables.
- 10%: Provides strategic marketing and communications guidance for new programming initiatives or events.
- 5%: Oversees School of Business alumni relations for 9,000 business alumni. Handles the marketing for all alumni events. Produces all creative materials related to School of Business alumni and makes decisions on editorial content for projects/e-newsletters such as the Donor Recognition Report, Fast Forward Newsletter, SBNews, and others. Works closely with the MBA Alumni Advisory Board, managing internal and external communications.
- 5%: Directs media relations for the School of Business to ensure accurate and timely coverage of events and news. Builds and fosters relationships with members of the business community and media contacts to raise public awareness of School of Business undergraduate and graduate programs. Directs the dissemination of news releases, feature articles, news stories, and other communications that highlight the School’s goals, objectives, activities and accomplishments to media sources, social media, the general public, and specialized targeted groups. Provides media training to faculty and staff.
- 5%: Provides presentation, meeting preparation/coordination and messaging support to the Dean. Assists with crisis communication and leads strategic marketing efforts on behalf of the Office of the Dean.
- 5%: Serves as the staff liaison to the School of Business Board of Governors communications committee. Manages all School of Business marketing efforts supported by the Board and serves on their communications subcommittee.
