Charleston County: Seeking Election Worker – Offsite Absentee Manager

Salary: $17.00 hourly

Position Description:  The Charleston County Absentee Voting Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker – Offsite Absentee Manager to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election. The Absentee Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process.

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Absentee Manager to be hired into:

  • Downtown Charleston Offsite Location

Note: Training will be at our office for two weeks and two weeks of work at the North Charleston offsite location. Starting October 19th, our additional satellite locations will open.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Manage day-to-day operation of the location
  • Mitigate any workplace conflict and communicate with Headquarters
  • Identify and train uniquely skilled staff for special assignments
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. Overtime is expected. The hourly wage starts at $17 an hour.

IMPORTANT: Charleston County has implemented best-practice guidelines in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safety of the general public and staff. Such measures include, but are not limited to, enforcing social distancing and providing staff with personal protective equipment, such as gloves, hand sanitizer, face masks, and sneeze guards.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Ideal candidates will have managerial experience—supervising staff of more than 10, and have attention to detail, public speaking abilities, excellent computer proficiency, and the ability reconcile data in excel.
  • Critical skills for all election positions include the ability to prioritize work, learn new jobs tasks quickly, and understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Two Saturday half-days will also be required. These positions may require weekend and evening work assignments. The selected individuals must be available for entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
