Position Description: The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum seeks a Senior Web Producer to manage and guide the development of content for various digital platforms, including the Museum website, related sites, and social media accounts. The Museum sites are visited by more than 5 million people annually and serve teachers, students, and visitors primarily, as well as donors, historians, policy makers, family researchers, and others. On social media, the Museum is currently educating nearly a million more people about the lessons of the Holocaust and its relevance today. The goal is to meet the needs of these diverse audiences as well as institutional goals related to Holocaust education and remembrance and genocide prevention.
This is a temporary (2 year assignment), full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum’s private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tell Stories On Digital Platforms:
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve the vision for digital storytelling that educates people about how and why the Holocaust happened, while meeting the needs and interests of our audiences, which vary across platforms
- Advise and collaborate with colleagues throughout the Museum to propose and develop digital solutions that achieve the goals identified in strategic planning
- Work with the digital team and staff Museum-wide to create and repackage content that complicates audience members’ thinking and sparks a desire to learn more
- Lead development of content (including writing, editing, and revising copy) for websites, YouTube video scripts, and social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Medium) that meets the Museum’s educational objectives
- Educate staff from across the Museum on best practices for web and social media content
- Recommend and implement strategies for ensuring appropriate content format(s) based on story complexity and multimedia assets available
- Manage routine website updates and monitor social media community conversations, including engaging with user-generated content as appropriate
- Curate Online Exhibitions:
- Assess content on existing microsites for special/temporary exhibitions and make recommendations for how to retire, repurpose, or migrate content into other digital platforms
- Produce exhibition websites in custom-built CMS using content from existing microsites and/or exhibitions, working with team of historians, content researchers, curators, and others
- Revise text and re-curate assets as needed to support optimal online experience, ensuring historical accuracy and audience comprehension
- Monitor and Evaluate Success:
- Ensure integrity of the Museum’s web reporting and analytics infrastructure, working collaboratively with other web producers, designers, and developers
- Monitor, track, gather, and present a variety of data for both web content and social media; analyze data and translate findings into insights and actionable recommendations
- Ensure accurate, timely, and relevant reporting on trends and content performance are provided to key stakeholders
- Follow conversations on social media and recommend opportunities where we can make a unique contribution
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA in journalism, marketing communications, or similar degree
- 7-10 years of experience managing and producing digital content, preferably for a media organization.
- Ability to use user insights data, web performance, and key trends to inform the development of content; includes expertise in Google Analytics and demonstrated ability to extract actionable findings from them
- Ability to lead and inspire collaborative, cross-functional teams and oversee/approve the work of others, including contractors
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. This includes proficiency in writing a range of digital content for various audiences
- Experience working in various content management systems
- Knowledge of SEO and web and social media best practices
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS and Agile project management methods and serving on core teams with user experience designers and front-end developers
- Creativity, curiosity, and unfailing attention to detail
- Sustained interest in the Holocaust, contemporary genocide, and the world beyond your doorstep
- Ability to work both independently and productively as part of a team with people in multiple locations, effectively participate in meetings remotely, and use a variety of digital communication tools such as Slack, GoogleHangouts.
- Experience collaborating with peers, supervisors, and stakeholders in a manner that embraces teamwork, effective conflict resolution, and an environment of trust and respect
