With Who: The Purple Tutu
Dates: August 2020 – December 2020
Location: Charleston, SC
Position Description: The Purple Tutu is a local not-for-profit organization that provides free ballet classes to children in the special needs community. Learn more about us on our Facebook page The Purple Tutu Ballet and on our website https://thepurpletutuballet.wordpress.com/. The intern will be under the direction of the Founder and Executive Director, Holland McDowell. The internship is unpaid but the intern may seek academic credit if the requirements are met.
Responsibilities:

Weekly social media posts about our program and relevant content.

Interact on social media daily (connect with other organizations, like/comment, etc)

Create and distribute posters, brochures, and print materials for student recruitment and promotion of events.

Help plan and execute events: Our most important event in which we participate is The Buddy Walk- typically held in October.

Contact local media outlets and request appearance to promote The Purple Tutu and recruit students.

Make new connections to people in the community to highlight and increase awareness of our efforts.

Help with student recruitment by contacting local institutions (schools, therapy offices, etc)
Qualifications: Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in college with social media and marketing experience. Great communication and presentation skills a must and a heart to work in non-profits.
Learning Objectives:

The intern will learn how to organize and market for events and gain experience leading a team.

The intern will develop communication skills and learn how to successfully make new contacts in the community.

The intern will have an opportunity to create relationships with professionals in local media outlets.

The intern will have a chance to be creative and propose new ways for our organization to expand and improve.
