Position Description: The Business and Government Relations Manager serves as the contact person that manages the relationship between Owen Electric and its key commercial and industrial accounts to improve the ease with which the key account conducts business with the cooperative. The Business and Government Relations Manager familiarizes Owen Electric and its key accounts with utility and key account industry issues. This position establishes and manages a program that promotes Key Account loyalty and encourages new business expansion within Owen Electric’s territory. The Business and Government Relations Manager serves as the liaison and the executive level contact for the Cooperative’s commercial and industrial members and the single point of coordination within the company to optimize the member relationship. Additionally, he/she is charged with performing rate and usage analysis for members of the key accounts program, and developing and administering special key account programs and strategy/support activities. This position also assists in the development and implementation of Owen Electric’s small commercial programs.
Responsibilities also include active involvement with economic development groups to advance the business climate and frequently engaging government officials to foster positive relations in the region.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in business, public relations, communications, engineering or related field. NRECA Key Account certification must be completed within two years.
Experience: Minimum five years experience in business management, business development, or public relations is preferred. Experience in electric utility industry preferred.
Abilities and Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required. Must possess strong decision making skills and have a good math aptitude. Should possess fundamental knowledge of utility operations and energy management issues, and be able to foster positive relationships between the Cooperative and Commercial and Industrial members.
Equipment to be Used: Computer systems and cellular phone.
Working Conditions: General office environment with regular visits to area Commercial and Industrial facilities. Frequent contact with area business/facility managers, economic development groups, and government officials. Meets regularly with VP Member Services, President/CEO, and department heads. Some travel, including overnight required in performance of duties and attendance of various training sessions.
