The Lowcountry Justice Project (LJP) investigates cases of potentially wrongful convictions and criminal justice issues in the
Lowcountry. LJP was inspired and encouraged by the Medill Justice Project at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Both justice projects are members of the Journalism Justice Network, a nationwide network for investigative reporting teams or individuals.
Mission: To provide a voice for the community and transparency in the Lowcountry criminal justice system. LJP values freedom of speech, ethical journalism, and experiential education. The goal of LJP is to allow students to delve into the processes of investigative journalism by actually doing it.
Get involved: LJP is looking for students who are interested in criminal justice or investigative reporting, but any students who enjoy writing, photography, media, law, journalism, and/or criminal justice are encouraged to get involved. LJP will be looking into the inequities of the bail system here in Charleston as its first project.
