Job Description
The Communications Specialist provides communications and marketing support for the Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair and the Florida Blue Center for Health Care Quality and assists with overall College of Nursing marketing and communications efforts. The successful candidate must be a strong and versatile writer with excellent organization and creative skills who develops and produces content for a variety of programs and research initiatives. This position coordinates activities and events for internal and external audiences, and develops and implements dissemination strategies for the Florida Blue Center and College of Nursing communications materials. The Communications Specialist will work under the direction of the Dorothy Smith Endowed Chair and the Director of Communications at the College of Nursing and will equally support workload for both.
Specific Duties Include

- Provides support for all communications and marketing efforts for the Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair and the Florida Blue Center at the College of Nursing.
- Schedules, arranges and promotes center events, research activities and meetings.
- Develops content, writes feature stories and produces project-related and promotional materials, such as infographics, charts, templates, email announcements, photography, video clips, social posts and other multimedia.
- Develops web content and manages web updates.
- Drafts written materials, including but not limited to operating procedures, protocols, conference and symposia agendas, minutes, research and marketing materials.
- Assists in the preparation of grant proposals through writing, formatting and creating displays of data and other information.
- Independently and accurately prepares correspondence, reports, presentations and other documents for the Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair and the Florida Blue Center, including affiliated faculty and committees as required.
- Provide administrative support for the Florida Blue Center and the Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair
- Performs all administrative support functions for the Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair and center.
- Maintains appointments and calendar for Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair.
- Schedules meetings and provides logistical support as needed (telephone, conference call, distance technology, AV equipment).
- Arranges professional travel for Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair and center activities by making reservations, completing forms and purchasing authorizations.
- Assists with coordination of research and educational dissemination activities of the center, which includes, but is not limited to, survey or other research material, management and tracking
- managing funds or reimbursements for center research activities.
- Manages internal grant competitions and scientific conferences for the center.
- Provides clerical support for grant proposals prior to submission to external agencies.
- Public Relations and Marketing
- Serves as communications liaison for the college’s programs to help identify communications and marketing needs and develop goals, solutions and tactics.
- Develops and maintains shared communications and marketing tools for college’s academic programs.
- Promotes, prepares materials for and arranges the college’s seminars and events, as needed.
- Collaborates on marketing plans for college academic, research and clinical programs, which includes identifying and researching strategic marketing opportunities and planning, creating, coordinating and integrating marketing and communications projects.
- Assists with the tracking, reporting and evaluating of progress through metrics and analytics.
- Arranges and promotes college’s participation in campus and community events.
- Participates in UF Health Communications, college and/or campus initiatives, projects and committees, as appropriate.
- Writing and Editing
- Writes content and formats e-newsletters and other digital communications targeting college audiences, under the direction of the Director of Communications.
- Writes, edits, formats (text and images) and publishes college website updates using WordPress.
- Assists with creating and maintaining a social media presence for the college.
- Production
- Arranges and facilitates creative services’ needs (e.g., graphic design, videography, photography). Facilitates review and approval processes required for college’s communications and marketing materials.
- Updates and creates flyers, posters, digital signage and other materials using colleges’ templates in Adobe and other graphic design programs.
- Identifies, obtains and/or creates photos and graphics for communications and marketing projects.
- Prints, mounts, delivers and displays flyers, posters and other communications materials.
Expected Salary
-
- $45,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements
-
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and familiarity with Google Analytics.
- Familiarity or experience with health care and/or academic research environments.
- Knowledge of APA format, Associated Press Style, and the ability to proofread work of self and others.
- Knowledge of university accounting procedures and regulations.
- Expertise in use of PC Computer and office equipment.
- Proficient in various software programs, including the ability to import text, graphics and tables from various software programs (Microsoft Word, ACCESS, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, among others). Familiarity or experience with WordPress.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of good graphic design and graphic design software programs, such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Skills in creativity and strong analytical thinking.
- Excellent writing, spelling, punctuation and grammatical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with outside agencies, faculty members, staff, administrative offices, etc.
- Ability to work independently and to achieve established deadlines.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, UF regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to plan and organize work assignments.
- Ability to effectively solve problems.
- Ability to handle/process confidential information in an appropriate manner.
