Mental health is a serious issue with college students in today’s society. Every one in five students are affected by anxiety or depression. It is always best when the community and schools help their students with these unavoidable issues. The College of Charleston provides a counseling center to help their students. I created a flyer that could be printed or sent online to educate the students of this.
Originally, I planned to make a brochure about the benefits of the Counseling Center here on campus, but I had some issues with the technology. So instead, I created a flyer that could be spread around campus. I made it noticeable in order to attract the attention of students on campus, especially the ones who don’t realize they need the counseling center until they see it. I think freshman or first year transfer students would benefit the most from the flyer. I didn’t realize I should go to the counseling center until I saw a post on social media about it. If college students do not see advertisements for certain things, they forget that they are there. So, by creating a flyer about the amenities of the counseling center, I can help people become aware of the counseling center and help them get what they need.
I had multiple constraints when it came to creating my flyer. At first, I couldn’t find the right format that I could use to create it. Fortunately, I fixed that very quickly. Another constraint is that if printed, I do not know if it would be seen a lot. People are so obsessed with their phones that they barely look at paper anymore. The good thing about a flyer is that you can post it online too. A big constraint I have is with a flyer there is limited room for information. I had to pick the most important and stick to that.
A flyer allows me to hit all the major points and amenities the counseling center offers to students on campus. I was able to successfully use bright colors and style a flyer that was calming and eye catching. It allows me to use pictures and move my information around to set it up in the best way possible. A flyer also allows me to be able to spread this information online and in print. If this were to be online I would add a link to the flyer that brought you to the counseling center website. A flyer helped me focus on the important information instead of focusing on the details of the services provided. No one wants to read that much information, so it is good that you can gather the information needed with a quick glance.
