  1. This guide is extremely useful for people who are looking to get the most out of wine. It is interesting to see how people taste wine separately, and from what I learned, it starts with the swirl. By swirling the wine, the legs are revealed which detects the alcohol content. Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Zinfandel typically have the largest legs. Then comes the smell. By smelling the wine, it gives a brief preface of what the wines taste will embody based on the elements. I didn’t realize how important the smell was, truly. The rest of the process is relatively simple considering the taste and the way to taste with your palate. However, the swirl, legs, and smell were elements of wine tasting I was unfamiliar with prior to this Wine 101 guide.

  2. I found it very interesting that insects play a role in how the wine tastes. The cycle that occurs and how the grapes soak up the characteristics of these things. The second thing that I found interesting is that you cannot tell if a wine has been corked based on the cork. You tell through the taste of the wine.

  3. I used to think that tannins were not my jam until trying so many silky red blends with smooth tannins. I think that I prefer tannins over a wine not having them. For me, it makes the wine taste more expensive and luxurious and makes drinking it more of an experience.
