Wines of the flaming fields

  1. I was not surprised to learn that areas with volcanic activity have varying contents of differing minerals within their soils. As we have learned in this class about the way that different soils and their mineral contents can affect the flavors of grapes, and subsequently, wines, this provides wine-growing regions in these areas with the unique opportunity to produce and market wines that vary from the standard fare in other places.

  2. I do not believe that I have tried a wine from a volcanic region but I feel like with all the minerals the soil has from the ash it would create a wine that is smoky in taste and a bit more on the strong side as far as boldness.

  3. Volcanic territory would definitely be a really interesting place to harvest wine grapes from. There is certainly a super unique type of soil, minerality, and acidity that is special to locations like this. I would love to try wine from a region like this. This is a very innovative way to go about making wine.
