This is particularly interesting to see that droughts are effecting the beer industry as well in Mexico. It’s interesting to see how climate change has an effect on everything in our lives. This is something that definitely is overlooked, the ability for a drought to cause significant harm and worries makes me question what they will do solve or create sustainable ways to brewing beer.
I was interested to learn about how drought has impacted beer production – when I think of lack of rainfall affecting the alcohol industry, my mind would generally go to issues impacting vineyards and the wine sector. I did not fully understand until our trip to Holy City Brewing how water-intensive the beer production process actually is, but this was very interesting to learn more about.
This podcast definitely puts some things into perspective in regards to the processes that get beer on the shelves. I did not realize how much water impacts these steps and how the lack thereof differs depending on the country.
While I think it is nice for a country to open a new economic avenue I do not think that it should disrupt the environment or harm the citizens. There is an issue with the instability of water and the economy so maybe they should find other ways to brew beers.
