Crowler is a great way to store beer, during the pandemic a friend of mine created a small brewery in there home and made his own beer. In this process, the beers were packed into crowlers. After not realizing the utility of these I recycled the bottle, regretting this after reading the article.
I was familiar with the concept of a growler before this article, but this was the first time that I have heard about a crowler. My favorite beer is from Sycamore Brewery in Charlotte, and I have purchased a growler from there before to bring home and enjoy in Charleston. Although this is a convenient option, I felt that the taste and flavor was not exactly the same as it would have been if I had enjoyed it fresh and out of the tap in the brewery.
Growing up my family has always been big craft beer drinkers which is how I was introduced to some beer terminology early on. I have definitely heard my family talk about “growlers” and then found out they are just big beer jugs! Like MK, my family also gets their growlers from a few breweries in Charlotte. I also agree that beer tastes better right when it has been poured.
The idea that you can take home a jug of beer from a brewery is interesting to me because it is kind of funny.
The other funny thing is that these jugs are called crowlers and growlers.
