This book tells the fascinating life story of a 19th century Cuban American from New Orleans who skillfully represented the Confederacy in northeastern Mexico in order to help coordinate the defensive plans necessary to protect the Texas border and insure the procurement of war material and provisions vital to the Southern Army. Quintero’s significant contributions are a little known historical aspect of the Civil War. He was also a writer of Cuban patriotic poetry, a translator, lawyer, and highly respected journalist at the Daily Picayune in New Orleans. This is the story of a man of extraordinary culture, an extremely intelligent, capable, and determined immigrant who believed passionately in a cause and dedicated much of his short life to it.

Jorge A. Marbán, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Italian at the College of Charleston, published numerous articles and several books on Spanish and Spanish American literature during his long career. Shortly before he passed away in 2011, he completed this biographical manuscript. His wife Dottie has recently published his book which is listed at www.friesenpress.com.
