CofC Concerts at the College of Charleston School of the Arts will present two performances of opera and musical theater titled “The Games People Play” starring the College’s opera students. Directed by faculty members David Templeton and Amanda Castellone, the production will include two one-act operas: The Marriage Lantern by Jacques Offenbach and A Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber. The show also will feature classic ensemble numbers like “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat” from Guys and Dolls and “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO” from Damn Yankees.

Performances will take place on Friday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m., in the Recital Hall at the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 Saint Philip St. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for College of Charleston students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or ONLINE.

The directors are thrilled to introduce audiences to these lesser-performed one-act operas while juxtaposing them with opera and musical theater scenes that range from emotionally riveting to lively and exciting.

Templeton is the director of the opera program in the College’s department of music. He has performed internationally, from leading operatic roles to intimate concerts. He holds degrees from Ohio State University and Stephen F. Austin State University.

Castellone is the assistant director of opera at the College. A Charleston native, she has enjoyed singing regionally and nationally. She holds a doctorate in music from Arizona State University.
