What happens when you combine inspirations from Buddhism, geology, Swan Lake, butoh, post-modern art, and family dynamics? The answer is Collaborations, a dance concert presented by the College of Charleston’s Department of Theatre. Collaborations will run Saturday, March 19 – Monday, March 21 in the Emmett Robinson Theatre in the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St. Curtain times will be 8 p.m. on Saturday and Monday, and Sunday at 3 p.m. only. Tickets may be purchased at the box office or by calling (843) 953-5604. Tickets are $15 for the general population and $10 for College of Charleston students, faculty, staff, and senior citizens 60 and older. There will be a Talkback and reception with the cast and crew on opening night, March 19, following the performance.

Of the eight pieces that comprise the concert, five of them are choreographed by students, which is a reflection of the continued growth of the dance program and the strength of both students and faculty. Talented students Meg Fannin-Buckner, Kayla Brown, Allyn Wong, Eva Falls, Georgia Schrubbe, and Steven Moskos all drew their inspirations from various sources and many have collaborated with professors in theatre and music, as well as connecting dance to their other academic studies and interests. Other pieces are choreographed by faculty members Eliza Ingle, Evan Parry, Gretchen McLaine and guest artist Kristin Fieseler. “This is how we have a piece in the concert that is inspired by the fluvial process of water and another piece that centers on family stories,” says Gretchen McLaine, Artistic Director of the concert and Assistant Professor of Dance.
