Piccolo Spoleto Festival: College of Charleston Young Artists Series

The Young Artists Series features some of the College of Charleston School of the Arts’ most accomplished music students and alumni. Tickets are $11 and available (up to 2 hours before performance) at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Box Office in the Charleston Visitors Center, by calling 1-(866)-811-4111, online, or at the door. All concerts take place at 12:00 noon in the College’s Recital Hall in the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip Street, except for May 28 at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming St.

Saturday, May 28 – College of Charleston Concert Choir [buy tickets]
Under the direction of Dr. Robert Taylor, this outstanding, award-winning choir has been featured in juried performances at several national conferences and has toured the Southeast. The program will include works by Tallis, Bach, Brahms, Fissinger, Hovland, Whitacre and Poulenc. This concert takes place at the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming St.

Monday, May 30 – Go for Baroque [buy tickets]
Spend the hour with the music of Bach, Handel, and their contemporaries as alumni and students of the College of Charleston in the area of strings and voice bring these classics to life.

Tuesday, May 31 – A Day With Romantics [buy tickets]
Music for violin, cello, guitar and voice featuring works by Brahms, Strauss, Schubert, Paganini and others.

Wednesday, June 1 – Yuriy’s Violin Studio Concert  [buy tickets]
Yuriy Bekker, internationally known violinist and concert master of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, presents his students in concert.

Thursday, June 2 – 20th Century Composers & Beyond  [buy tickets]
Music for violin, guitar, piano, cello and voice featuring works by Shostakovich, Piazzolla, Dvorak and Bolcom.

Friday, June 3 – College of Charleston Faculty, Alumni & Friends  [buy tickets]
John Samuel Roper, flautist, presents a newly written piece by College of Charleston’s Edward Hart, along with works performed by Gregory Guay (classical guitar).

Saturday, June 4 – College of Charleston Jazz  [buy tickets]
Students of the College of Charleston’s successful jazz program play standards and originals.

Monday, June 6 – Lieder…Poetry and Music!  [buy tickets]
Regionally and nationally recognized singers perform the most intimate genre of classical music, lieder. This concert will include more than the German form; it will feature the art songs of Fauré, Donaudy, Copland, Britten and of course, Schubert, Schumann and Strauss.

Tuesday, June 7 – The Mozart Effect  [buy tickets]
Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major as well as some of Mozart’s most famous operatic arias from Le Nozze di Figaro, Idomeneo, and La Clemenza di Tito.

Wednesday, June 8 – Get off my Bach!  [buy tickets]
The music of the Baroque period’s greatest composer includes Cello Suites Nos. 2 & 3, as well as arias from the St. Matthew Passion and the Magnificat.

Thursday, June 9 – College of Charleston Jazz Alumni  [buy tickets]
Jazz alumni from the College of Charleston present a program of jazz standards and originals.
