The 2nd Monday Series at the College of Charleston School of the Arts will present a concert featuring virtuoso singers on April 11, 2016. Professors from the College’s music department will perform a variety of works that span the baroque, classical and romantic vocal repertoire: selections by George Bizet and Giacomo Puccini, selections from The Messiah by George Frideric Handel, an impressive collection of Schubert Lieder, and Songs of Travel by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The program also will include the Benedictus from Mass in G by Franz Schubert and art songs by Schumann, Mozart and Barber.

The performers will include sopranos Deanna McBroom, Amanda Castellone and Kim Powell; tenor Robert Taylor; baritone David Templeton and pianist Robin Zemp. Each artist-scholar carries an impressive range of performance and teaching experience; the concert offers a unique opportunity for students and the public to see them perform on stage together. This concert is particularly special as it will honor the great, musical pedagogue of Charleston, Miss Emily Remington. Remington has been an inspiration and musical guide to many students and faculty in the music department. Deanna McBroom mentions that “Her consummate musicianship and skill as a pianist, accompanist and teacher, combined with her effervescent personality, have given us many wonderful moments on the stage. In her 100th birthday year, we offer this concert as a tribute to ‘Miss Emily’!”
