The 2nd Monday Series will host Charleston Music Fest, both part of the College of Charleston School of the Arts, for a night of intimate chamber music on February 8. Marta Krechkovsky (violin) and Randolph Kelly (viola), who both are members of the Pittsburgh Symphony, will join graduates of the renowned Moscow Conservatory Natalia Khoma (cello) and Volodymyr Vynnytsky (piano), for a concert of romantic works. The quartet will present Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat major, Op. 47 along with a strings performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Trio No. 3 in G major, Op. 9 No. 1.

The Monday, February 8 performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Recital Hall in the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 Saint Philip St. General admission is $15 and $10 for all students. Tickets can be purchased online, by calling (843) 953-6575, or at the door. 

Each artist has a prestigious career as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Ukrainian violinist Marta Krechkovsky holds degrees from both The Julliard School and The Manhattan School of Music. An active chamber musician, Krechkovsky has appeared in New York concert halls such as Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Bargemusic in Brooklyn, as well as Kitara Chamber Music Hall in Sapporo, Japan, and was featured on RAI Live Radio in Milan, Italy.

Violist Randolph Kelly has enjoyed a distinguished and multifaceted career as principal violist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He was hired by André Previn in 1976, and has since played under the direction of Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons. One highlight of Kelly’s tenure with the Pittsburgh Symphony was performing the world première of the Viola Concerto written for him by Samuel Adler. Kelly was educated at The Curtis Institute.

The Khoma-Vynnytsky Duo is a unique team of two virtuoso soloists from the same city and with a similar background. Both were born in Lviv, Ukraine and studied at the Moscow Conservatory, and each has won distinguished International Competitions. They have appeared individually and as a duo with major orchestras and premier chamber music series throughout the United States and Europe. Both artists are faculty members at the College of Charleston.

This dynamic quartet last shared the stage in 2015 for Music at Grazhda, a fundraiser to support Grazhda Music and Art, a community for Ukrainian musicians in New York.
